Rumours have started circulating that the Apple M2 will deliver exceptional graphics performance, potentially as high as a former flagship NVIDIA GPU. The reality could not be further from the truth.

NVIDIA cards do not fully support Metal.

False. They do, I have used a specialised metal driver made by an apple employee during WWDC 2019. iTS APPLE

According to this leak the M2 GPU will be nearly as fast as Radeon 5500M or 1060 and 1.5x faster than M1. It looks like it will have 16 graphics cores.

At the same time the current mid-range GeForce 3060 will be nearly 3 times faster than M2 GPU.

I wonder why Apple can't do what Samsung and AMD is doing, integrating RNDA 2 graphics in the Exynos chip. M2 + custom RX 6800M would be something to see.

The logical reasoning here is complete trash, supported by nothing. It's the same baseless argument that said that the M1 couldn't be competitive with Intel - and be fanless no less. And  guess what - it actually is ... And at less TDP.

I like being skeptical, but usually I try to base my reasoning on SOMETHING.

Obviously it won't be able to beat GTX 1080Ti just yet. People expect way too much (wishful thinking) 👀

There is day and night difference between a CPU and a GPU. And kinda foolish to expect that level of performance so early from a low tdp chip tailed and optimised for their specific workflow.
