I don't believe it's a Google issue inasmuch as Apple's fault. The issue only occurs when sending to iPhone users if I'm not mistaken.

Far as I know Iphone has barely 16% of the global Market.

Also it's on Apple to work with the Majority of the world not the other way around.  They keep themselves where they are because they want the world to revolve around them.  Apparently it doesn't
