Apple is reportedly exploring the possibility of manufacturing iPad chassis from titan alloy instead of aluminum, which could greatly improve the tablet's lackluster rigidity and therefore rectify one of its most glaring weaknesses.

Unnecessary since existing iPads are already lasting for years. Improve the existing chassis but Stop mining rare materials for no reason.

titanium alloys are generally softer than most steels though, true, harder than aluminum. for a given shape titanium frames / chassis are stronger than aluminum counterparts but less resistant than steel. vs steel chassis the titanium ones are lighter, though always more expensive (material itself, machining, thermal treatment). vs aluminum chassis the titanium ones are heavier and much more expensive, just a little more rigid and (natively) more scratch resistant. all together titanium chassis are mostly a marketing stunt.
