The latest figure show Sony still leads the CMOS image sensor market, but Samsung is catching up

A new market analysis report shows that Sony retained the greatest share of the CMOS image sensor market in 2020, while Samsung came in second. Then again, the latter OEM's actual sales were seen to rise compared to 2019, whereas those of Sony dropped slightly year-on-year. This was due to a formerly major player virtually dropping out of the smartphone market.

I don't think it works that way, it might have made sense if Samsung absorbed Huawei's market share, but obviously not. Half of it (or possibly more in terms of volume) is now Honor, the rest mostly went to other existing Chinese companies.
And curiously, although Huawei is hardly moving any units, they're still putting P50 commercials on prime time CCTV 1, likely costing millions per minute, bar any deals behind closed doors with the Party.
