New renders hint at a BlackBerry with an interesting take on the physical keyboard of the future

BlackBerry is now linked to a 5G smartphone that will also bring the brand's hallmark physical keyboard back in 2021. A designer has released renders of what might be a new spin on this concept: one that may be made of the same material as the rest of its display panel. Then again, it is still divided into discrete QWERTY squares, thus allowing for visible mode-switching and alternative uses.

Um, so it's a physical keyboard without a physical keyboard? Or at least without any of the advantages physical keyboards has. As someone who has never owned a phone without a physical keyboard (my current unit being a BlackBerry Key2) I have no interest in a device such as this at all. I still hope BlackBerry will eventually produce a phone with a real physical keyboard, but otherwise my hope stands with the F(x)tec Pro. (That actually has an even better landscape layout!)

Huh? I thought it is a physical keyboard, just each button being a tiny display as well?

If it is so, I might buy it.

blackberry user from way back... these new devices have the brands name.
A physical keyboard or a static virtual keyboard.....make both in modest numbers and let consumer choose.

to a hardcore BB user, it needs the BBOS to be a true Blackberry.

BBOS10 was already able to run any QUALIFIED android app out their, it just wouldnt run every crap app, because of security.

after the solarwinds disaster, I want BBOS back even more for security,
Every data byte encyrpted out and in thru main host servers, checked from the wild before return to my phone.

I know it wont happen but a 5G big quality screen and physical keyboard with brand name would be welcome.

LG is out of the phone game so waiting for this.

To be honest, I would love to see the return of Priv. I do love the hidden physical QWERTY keyboard under the screen. It means that I still have the usual smartphone screen with an added flexibility of a keyboard.

I agree with you. All BBOS need is a newer version of the Android runtime library. Even Sailfish OS got Android 10 app support. If we can have Android 10 app support on BBOS, I would have been using a BB10 BlackBerry smartphone right now.

Ok, it there are actual buttons sticking out that you can feel and each of them has a screen - then this is really cool! If so I'll probably get one too. :D

This is a false leak. So its not a leak, but just a rendering by anybody. Confirmed NOT the new BB.
