Samsung will manufacture the Snapdragon 895 alongside the Exynos 2200, both of which will be 4nm

A new Twitter leak suggests that Samsung has won the contract to supply Qualcomm with the successor to its flagship mobile SoC, the Snapdragon 888. Should this be the case, the South Korean giant will make this chipset alongside its own next-gen top-end processor, the Exynos 2200, possibly using the same "4nm" process.

Samsung's 5nm is hardly better than TSMC's 7nm. I doubt their 4nm will be even as good as TSMC's 5nm. It's all meaningless branding at this point.

What good is any more speed when the software is at a standstill?

1. Android on Tablets are garbage since Google gave up on it.
2. Android on Phones don't need to be any faster
3. WoA is practically dead, every device is an overpriced chromebook.
4. Chromebooks are the only possible devices that can benefit from faster ARM, but many Devs are still unwilling to make compatible apps for the OS.

So what, all this effort for Chrome OS in the hopes that Google promises future software improvements to mature the platform into a proper Laptop Operating System?

Who says Windows on ARM is dead? Microsoft is still developing its 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility. Even Microsoft started to make their own chip.

Yes, early indications are Samsung's 4LPE won't be the equal of TSMC's N5. It isn't the right silicon process node to deliver all of the performance improvements that ARM is saying are on the table for 2022. Neither is TSMC's N4 but it is by far the best of what is available. So, if Samsung has won the contract for the SD895 that isn't exactly great news for users.

Apple does seem to have the inside running on securing production time on TSMC's most advanced silicon process nodes used for volume manufacturing so this hot tip does make a certain amount of sense. Still, no hard evidence is yet available on whether the SD895 will be fabbed in Samsung or TSMC production facilities. It is too early to credit any of the eminently fallible claims that are floating about at the moment.

I would love to see a scaled up version of this chip running Windows on arm. Although it has been a lot slower to develop, I think we really are just seeing the beginning of the arm market taking on x86. I was surprised and skeptical when macs went to custom arm cores in their computers, but they are certainly doing well with it. Hell, let me dual boot windows on arm and I just might buy one for the house.
