The slower RAM gimps the gaming performance by up to 20% on the Asus model, while the missing MUX switch is further limiting the potential that should match models equipped with RTX 3080 mobile dGPUs. Similar RAM problems can also be encountered on the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro. However, the Lenovo Legion 7 AMD features faster RAM, so this is not really just another conspiracy against AMD.

Now the question is whether or not other Asus Ryzen laptops have the same terrible ram or if it's just the 6800M. Cause if all Ryzen laptops including the 3000 series have the same terrible ram similar to how the Legion 5 Pro does, then this is some next level nonsense.

The lack of the Mux switch is less surprising cause the 3000 series also doesn't have the Mux switch from Asus for some reason...

I heard some rumor that OEMs have run out of double rank ram kits months ago, due to shortage of chips and price rising in retail market.

The lack of MUX is disgusting, and it won't cost too much for those OEMs to implement such function. It's more likely they are making room for the very top series to ask for premium prices.

Are you sure you're reading the designations correctly? If Crucial is using 8 bank configuration then it means they are using x16 chips. Meaning chips that store 16 bits per memory location. While Samsung, if they are indeed using 16 banks, is probably using x8 chips. Actually, the 16 bank configuration (with four groups of four banks instead of two groups) should be superior. But my memory on this is vague. The thing is, I have got some HyperX that is 1Rx8 and 2Rx8, same capacity, both have 16 (4x4) internal banks and both use x8 chips (the 1R version simply uses chips with twice the capacity and so only has one set [rank] instead of two). That would mean it's the other way around and it's the Crucial that has x8 chips and 16 banks.

But the numbers (performance difference) seem too high to me. I wouldn't so easily accept some secondary timings as an explanation. Secondary timings causing 20 % difference in games using dGPU? Get out of here!

The MUX switch missing while stile being inexcusable since it could be mitigated  and performance can be returned using a external monitor, what I don't get why ASUS would cripple performance on the supposedly top tier gaming laptop from AMD .
At least you can also get back too  by upgrading to better RAM but the supposed money savings you are rumored to get buying a cheaper all AMD laptop is offset buy having to purchase the faster RAM yourself ( 16GB's of faster better RAM would cost you around $150-$200 )

It's interesting to see how many sites have gone with this lede. What I find more noteworthy is that even with its performance hobbled by these factors, the 6800M in this implementation is still looking to offer better price/performance than the Nvidia-based competition.

Simple. The Crucial kit probably violates JEDEC spec. Factory Samsung/Hynix/Micron/Ramaxel/Nanya kits don't.
That or, 8Gbit vs 16Gbit (where the latter has pros and cons against the former).

This machine runs waaaaay too hot. CPU/GPU are running over 90 degrees mining ETH which does not mine hot. Also there are no options native to control the fans. Good system but cooling is a POS. DO NOT buy this machine.
