Apple currently uses components from Qualcomm in order to keep iPhones capable of using mobile data. However, its senior vice president of hardware technologies has just announced that it intends to replace these modems with one of its own. This may be the next significant move in its in-house ambitions since the conception of the M1 chipset.

"...The Cupertino giant's decision to give its 5G modem business to Qualcomm effectively torpedoed Intel's own interests in the same market.."

Intel was not able to provide the product Apple needed within the timeframes they needed it to compete with their rivals who were shipping 5g while Apple waited getting further behind its competitors. Apple had no choice but to switch to Qualcomm to avail themselves and their customers of the latest and best 5g technology available for mobile.

Maybe Apple can do what Intel could not and match Qualcomm, however that is yet to be seen. It was funny however to listen to Apple's arguments in relation to Qualcomms monopoly considering Apple's own behaviour towards developers in the App Store. Hypocrites.
