An alleged image of a PlayStation 5 overheating warning message has appeared on social media, leading to speculation of whether the console runs too hot or not or whether this particular PS5's enclosed environment was the main cause for the thermal-driven shutdown on show.

yea, right. there are no demo kiosks for any of the next gen consoles. both MS and sony aren't even going to sell their consoles in stores on launch day - but yet this one exists. i can't believe you'd even report on something so phony.

A lot of stores have online storefronts. It's true that Sony forbids selling directly in stores for the time being, but this doesn't forbid stores from:
- Displaying the machines
- Advertising the online store purchasing option
- Delivering units ordered online

There's no reason to believe this to be fake.

As for the overheating itself, it's glaringly obvious that a 300W+ machine will have serious issues running cool inside of a closed glass box.

Real or fake, this poorly constructed device display is a lesson for any retailer to learn. If the devices is powered-on & will be minimally used (i.e. display mode), the display case must provide adequate air ventilation for the device to properly circulate cool air for acceptable operation.

They're fortunate that today's computer/game systems are designed with protection features for the device & user. I could have just overheated, caught on fire, & melted down that whole cabinet.
