Lenovo US has announced a major sales event running for this weekend only, with up to 70% off some PCs of various types. Among these are the 7th- and 8th-gen ThinkPad X1 Carbon ultrabooks, which are down to under US$1000 in some cases. The Ryzen 7 Pro 3700U-powered T495s also features here at an excellent price.

Wow. "Only" $900 for a very soon-to-be three-generation old CPU, 8GB solderedLPPDR3, a display with borderline brightness and (at least high-frequency) PWM, and mediocre battery life. Or $1,500 for the same except a slightly newer CPU and, at least, 16GB RAM. So you can spend almost $1k on an already seriously outdated laptop that will be obsolete in no time, especially due to the limited RAM, or $1.5k on one that's certainly better, but is still very expensive for what it is and actually has a lower PWM frequency. Plus, either way, you're playing the panel lotto. And they act like it's this huge sale and you're getting such a great deal. You're just buying already overpriced old stock at not nearly enough of a discount because they want to clear it out for new products. And they're seemingly always doing sales, and this doesn't seem all that much better than normal, and certainly not like a good value. Better to just wait a couple months and get new, (more) up-to-date ones for probably similar prices. They need to shave about another 25% off these prices. This is just a typical price high then cut prices with a "sale" to make it look like a great deal, just like Dell and HP and department stores.
