It's not the quietest or best-looking gaming laptop out there, but $860 USD for GeForce RTX 2060-level graphics and Core i7-like performance is hard to argue with. The value of the all-AMD G5 15 Special Edition is impressive.

Good review, but I really don't understand how the ratings work. How is it that such a hot-running laptop gets 84% score?

Rikii

I don't understand the rating either.
"There are notable disadvantages to keep in mind with temperature and fan noise being the most striking. "
Then they rate the noise level 99% good.
Also it has well above average web-camera/microphone combo and it get's 44%
i mean.... ????

This is the first time ever I saw a GPU running at 93 degrees. Nvidia GPUs hit therm-cap well lower than that. Can imagine how terrible g5 Nvidia edition will perform.

This is unique laptop available with 4600H and 5600M so my disappointment with screen is immeasurable.
If Intel version of G15 doesn't come with devastating agressive 200 PWM then Dell will have a big PR problem.

My competing Tuf A15 runs cooler than this. 1660ti is in the 70s and 4800H doesn't go above 90, avgs around 80. Don't think any of my Nvidia gpus in my laptops have gone above 80 (1660ti, 2060 or 2070 all in the 70s). Another reason not to go AMD GPU :p

Even the surface temps are cooler. WASD are cool, not like this one's ~44deg! Disappointing Dell and to think I almost went for it.

I see people complaining about the high temps and citing how Nvidia doesn't do that. With Nvidia also heading into smaller nodes, I am looking forward to see that change.

great review. what I still don't get: why Dell is not using adaptive synch? this is just a big waste of potential!

all in a sudden the Asus A15 beccame much more appealing, as this one also add USB.C (gen. 2).

such a pitty, as I had high hope for this "all-AMD"-laptop.  :-[

Disciple7

Why are you lying about the adaptive sync. I have the same laptop and it came with adaptive sync right out of the box, the driver on amd's website patches it if you dont have it out of the box. Please change that.  Or worse case you use CRU. Your gaming perf sketchy aswell mine runs better on most of your benchmarks.

SCARed

Thx pal, that info about adaptive Synch is at least good news.

but the high temps and noise are still a big minus.  :-\

From what I've read elsewwhere, not only does the USB-C port no longer support Thunderbolt 3, it no longer supports data at all. It can only carry a Displayport signal. Which is bizarre, as there is already a mini-dp on this laptop.

Can you check to verify if what I've read elsewhere is true?

Himank

I've heard that you need to manually max out the fans on this laptop. This is based on Hardware Cannucks' testing.

Seeing HP Omen being best 4800H gaming laptop. I still don't know why this is #1 budget. It's like one of the worst. Feeling these ratings are becoming more subjective each month.  ::)
