The FCC has confirmed multiple aspects of the Sony WH-1000XM4 ahead of its expected release this week. Sony, which is replacing its popular WH-1000XM3 headphones after almost two years, has dropped support for the Qualcomm aptX and aptX HD codecs. The WH-1000XM4 is expected to retail for US$349.99.

As long as it has Sony's LDAC then that's fine anyways. Android 8.0 onwards devices all have LDAC support technically and LDAC sound better than APTX HD and is variable rate as well. And for apple devices it's not like they can take advantage of any high res BT codecs anyways so it won't make a difference for those users.

Haven't you guys seen the current price of the wh1000xm3 going back to $349? That's the same price as the rumored wh1000xm4 at launch. What it means is simple: Either there won't be any release of wh1000xm4 during June 2020 or the wh1000xm4 will cost higher than $349. I don't believe that the wh1000xm4 will cost more than $349. So, the hint of the wh1000xm4 coming out will be when the wh1000xm3's price will be reduced again to $278.

waiting too long

Waited too long for these; leak after leak and still hasn't been released.
Pulled the trigger on the Bose 700s today, if Sony won't take my money at least Bose will.

You should've waited a little bit more because Sony seem to be trying to sell out their old devices before releasing the new ones (Sony is currently delaying the release of both the Alpha AS7 III and the wh1000xm4). Right now, Sony in the UK is trying to get rid of some of its old devices (which include the wh1000xm3s) by hosting a Summer sale from 24th June to 7th July 2020. That's probably why they don't want to release the Sony wh1000xm4. They can decide to release it tomorrow or in December 31st 2020.

They are even giving away 1 wh1000xm3 free in France for buying 1 Xperia 1 II. I'm not surprised that Sony's making sale reductions everywhere in the world right now. What makes me angry is that the only thing we had in the US was price reduction on the wh1000xm3s which went back up already while other parts of the world hold better deals. Is it because Sony think we got more money to spend in the US?Anyway, I won't buy any Sony's old device when I know there is a new one right around the corner.

Looks like the Sony WH-1000xm3's are now getting discounted meaning could be a immiment annoucement for the WH-1000xm4's coming soon, fingers crossed.

Eurogamer has a article around it, can't link due to being new user.

"It seems that Sony's desire to wow the market is causing them to chase the ball instead of just playing the game..."
I didn't know that Sony has a long history of making customers wait impatiently :'(. I got the above quotation from a review on Sony's Alpha as7 III which Sony has been talking about since Feb 2018 (for 2+ years) and still never released the camera( :-\) while the market moved on to better cameras. Here is the link for those who want to read it:
