Apple's 2020 MacBook Air is the first Air with optional quad-core processors, which should increase the performance significantly, at least in theory. However, the entry-level SKU with the Core i3 CPU for $999 is often the better choice for everyday tasks.

You mean better choice for those in the glass Apple prison.

Windows ecosystem is way richer, way more open and way more compatible with everything.

Yeah, basically. The entry level model is the only competitive one; anything higher is straight up given to the Dell XPS 13 as far as value goes, and the only reason to get the Air at that point would be Apple fanboys

My gf wants a new MacBook air. Is upgrading the ram on the i3 reasonable? I remember on my 15 inch retina, chrome used to use up all the ram.

With Intel losing the battle against AMD, in 2020, benchmarks try to convince us that single threaded performance is more important and tech sites that dual cores are the best thing available today. It could be funny, but it's not.

Over the years I've come to realize that the big difference in laptops is not Windows vs Mac, but unibody metal chassis vs plastic chassis. The former last about twice as long, in my experience. There probably are great Windows laptops with unibody metal chassis, but I don't have first-hand experience with any of them. Last month I bought a $999 MacBook Air, and I'm very happy with it.

I buy MacBook Air i3 256gb few days ago, the device is silent, body is cool inside and outside. The keyboard and the retina are just amazing so I am really satisfy with this Mac.
