Lenovo has started selling the IdeaPad 5 laptop with a Ryzen 4000 APU from AMD inside it. The 14-inch model with an AMD Ryzen 5 4500U can be had for a price starting at US$649.99 in the US, while shoppers in the UK can go for a cheaper 15-inch variant with the Ryzen 3 4300U chip from £404.99 (US$501). Lenovo customers in Germany are spoiled for choice.

Lol.
If the author of this article would have searched for lenovo UK, here in Europe, you can build your own ideapad with cpus from 4300u to 4800u. 4600u with 512ssd and good ips 300 nits panel for about 550£.
You can opt not to have Win 10, than you have a discount of 90£.
To do some research is always good, not to almost copy paste an article from other sites...

lol, look how cheap renoirs are
4500 6/6 default
4600u 6/12 +30 gold
4700 8/8 +70 gold
4800 8/16 +100 gold
just a reminder, 8 zen-2 cores is a freaking monster, especially in "u", 15w category. it doubles(!) the performance of the previous fastest 15w chip.

It amazes me, that we are in 2020 and manufacturers still offer 8GB RAM as maximum configuration. I ve had laptops with 8gb configuration since 2011. 16GB should have been the new standard by now.

Having a powerful RYZEN cpu, combined with minimum RAM, baffles me.

Same goes for other brands.

This is considered as a budget lineup. What do you expect?

lineup? no. 8gb is the top option for the lower model in the lineup, where 4gb is soldered already. 4+4, you know.
and if 8gb is soldered, we have an option for 8+8.
seems pretty logical for me.

If you pay 40£ more, you can opt for 16gb instead of 8gb for any cpu configuration!

Wow, the upgrades are fairly cheap, like wow.  You can upgrade to a 8 core 4700u for 70 pounds and to 16gigs for 40 pounds, bringing the whole thing to 670 pounds.....damn....an 8 core laptop at that price......is this real life?

i know, right. but 4700u->4800u for 30 gold is a no brainer. extra 8 threads.

versus macbook and dell xps
i have no clue why would somebody buy intel platform in 2020.

Threads isn't really much gain from multithreading,(4700 vs 4800) bsd guys even recommend to disable it for security concerns. Although it has higher max clock and rx vega 8 over rx vega 7, totally worth of 30£

You have here 4800u review of Lenovo next.lab501.ro/notebook/english-lenovo-ideapad-s540-13are-vs-13iml-amd-ryzen-7-4800u-vs-intel-core-i7-10710u

Users who use Thunderbolt 3 peripherals like eGPU have no choice right now.
We don't have any AMD laptops with TB3.

But in terms of price/performance value new AMD chips are really amazing.
