If Sony doesn't accept a loss on initial PS5 console sales then Microsoft's Xbox Series X will wipe the floor with the PlayStation 5

Holiday 2020 is gearing up to be a true battle of the console giants: PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series X. Gamers have been discussing specifications, components, power, exclusive titles, backwards compatibility and more to decide which console could be classed as the better prospect. But if Sony doesn't take a hit on the initial PS5 console run then Microsoft could utilize its superior financial strength to make sure the XSX wins the next-gen console contest.

the author must be 10 years old and not aware of how MS has done in the console business since they first entered it. sony has the 1st-party games. sony will have multiple ps5 exclusives at launch - the seriesx will have neither at launch. MS has even said to not expect ONE seriesx exclusive for at least 1 year and possibly up to the first 2 years after launch. the author of this article doesn't know what he's talking about.

Lol Microsoft doesn't have superior
financial strength they are no where near
valuable at $1 trillion their only worth in the
$ 200 billion or $ 300 billion dollar range an
by the way the naive, ignorant, oblivious author
does not seem to realize total assets indicates
how much a company is worth not market cap.

ouch! listen to the salty Sony fans who still can't get over how much weaker PS5 is than Series X.

Dry your eyes. Or don't.

I think every major console in the last couple generations was sold at a loss, be it PS4, ps3, xbox, etc

I'm not a fan boy but until now only had playstations ans never got an Xbox. I have a PS4 and the ps5 will be retro compatible so, if they keep reasonable will be an obvious buy, no matter how better the Xbox is (I don't have games for it neither does any of my close friends).

that's the main thing, the Xbox will launch after the failure of the Xbox one, the ps5 will launch after the massive success of the PS4. Xbox might win, but it will in a disadvantage from the get go

That would be a return to the Xbox 360 days, the time that Microsoft had the greatest success in the console wars. But, let us remember the Xbox One was the most expensive console (at launch) while still being much less powerful than PS4. I wouldn't mind if Microsoft flipped the tables, but that would take a big financial commitment (that may be a hard sell to the board in a crisis period).

I must also point out that "haters are going to hate." Xbox now transcends consoles, as it has now become a household brand in PC gaming (also a Microsoft bastion thanks to their Windows OS). Xbox is now Microsoft's gaming brand. As such, Xbox does have loads of high quality 1st party exclusives from its studios, you just need to realize Xbox goes way beyond that black box with a glowing X. And no, if your black box has a PS logo on it you *cannot* play Xbox exclusive games, no matter the amount of mental gymnastics you may attempt to pull.

The one who is going to win is that one that dominates sales worldwide (not just North America)... which isn't Xbox... here is the thing, most of Europe, Asia, South America, etc do not care about the Xbox brand.  For matter fact lots of those continents look at that brand as a big joke since its inception.

Opinions like this are worthless... I remembered people saying that the Nintendo Switch was going to fail hard... and look at it know (it has even better sales than the Xbox brand at this point).

Series no-X-clusives

Who on Earth would buy an X-s-X? NO EXCLUSIVES for up to 2 years! Cross-generation titles, i.e. have to run to "minimum specs" of the XBox One. Enjoy your "next gen" experience (again). MS are shooting themselves in the foot trying to create a homogeneous XBox-old/XBox-new/Win-PC platform.

As for power, devs have already come out to say that the PS5 performs better due to it's no-bottlenecks, streamlined design vs the MS brute force mixed spec subsystem components approach.

Besides, never listen to ANYTHING Full Sphincter has to say ;-)

You're not as smart as you think you are. Most professional analyst put Microsoft around 500 billion net worth with Sony at 50 - 70 billion. There are multiple ways to determine a companies worth and Sony doesn't even come close to Microsoft and never will

Miss Parsons is nervous

Author has no clue about console sales, nobody cares about the Xbox brand outside the UK and USA  and having no exclusives will not help.

You have no clue about console sales either buddy.  If nobody cared about the Xbox brand then the 360 wouldn't have sold 84 million next to the "superior known brand" of Sony selling 87 million PS3 consoles. Microsoft and Sony were neck and neck last gen despite Sony having a foothold in more countries.

As for exclusives. Based on 2019 numbers, the 6 best selling PS4 exclusives of this gen sold from 8-16 million copies. As of 2020 some may be at 20 million sold. The PS4 has sold over 100 million consoles. This means that out of 108 million PS4 owners, only about 1/5th are actually buying the biggest Sony exclusives. Far less are buying the less popular exclusives. Exclusives don't actually matter as much as some fanboys think. Microsoft fell behind this gen because of a weaker and more expensive console that quickly gained a very bad reputation among gamers due to unfriendly consumer policies.

Dud actually I am you
on the other hand are not
as smart as you think you
are considering there are no
other ways to know how much
companies are worth since like
I said total assets exhibits what
and how much they are really worth unless you can prove to
me that Microsoft is worth $ 500
billion dollars which is pretty obvious they are no where near
close to being that

not to mention the only reason
you commented in what I said
because you knew that they are
not worth $ 1 trillion dollars just like they are not worth $ 500 billion dollars so you're distorting, skewing, twisting
by saying there are other ways
to know how much a company is
worth when there isn't.

Exclusives do matter no matter how you want to spin it,  I know the numbers  and it's almost a extra 70million in software sales...lol
Top  6 xbox exclusives sold around 21 million  and the top selling xbox one exclusive sold about 3 million  less than than PS4's number 6 exclusive.
Thanks for proving that exclusives do matter.

I think all this arguing is kind of pointless, I have all xboxes and ps variants to date and yes I bought the PS4 pro for Spider-Man, yet I still go back to x-box to play CoD online with friends. They both give great gaming solutions and the thing is more about which gets released first and affordability as to whether you can afford the other. I just know I'll end up with both. Some people and people with kids have to make a choice and whoever wins or loses the war, both will succeed to deliver and be supported for a good amount of life before the next.
