Following in the footsteps of the MateBook D 15 the smaller MateBook D 14 proves once again that there is absolutely no reason to throttle CPU performance under load. Find out in our review what other qualities Huawei's notebook has to offer.

Great review! But how is it possible battery lifes improves so much compared to the older model when measured power consumption pretty much stays the same? It doesn't quite add up for me.

Also in the specifications it says no keyboard backlight while the article states the opposite.

Interesting battery life results, in my case 1 hour of 1080p YT with around 70 % brightness drops battery from 96 to 77%, the main problem - coolers living they own life

bought the 14" at day one at an event at the Huawei shop in Milan on February 13 ... what to say, I'm thinking of selling it. In 2020 I find it inconceivable that if I connect two HD to a laptop the transfer speed is 40 MB per second because one of the ports is USB 2.0. I obviously tried to connect two HD one to USB 3.0 and the other with an adapt cable to USB C but nothing to do, always speed from USB 2.0. Inconceivable there is a product that wants to mimic the top of range has a similar flaw, (My 2016 HP had 3 USB 3.0 ports) .. good laptop but nothing more, even as autonomy in my opinion the reviews have been very lenient ...

mine has a back-lit keyboard although today, suddenly i can no longer find the control settings for it. (it worked yesterday)

i want to buy an external ssd for fast backup. my question is on data transferspeeds
1) .. is the usb c port good for thunderbolt 3?
2) .. why cant alessandro1980 get data transfer at an acceptable speed
from the usb c to the the usb 3 port?

Guys,
In my country this laptop is pretty much the same price than Ideapad s540-14IWL. Would I be correct thinking that s540 is better value for money than d14??

Got the datasheet for the matebook USB-C.
USB-C is 2.0 without any display alternative mode.
That explain why our 3 Matebook D14 can't display anything with our dock station.
Clearly a fail, and a stupid one that is, how cheap can you be to cut corner here?

Are you sure you have the new 3500U version? The 2500U version had poorer battery life because the old ryzen architecture could not throttle back as far.

If you had the 3500U version I would love to hear it, because I'm considering purchasing one and this could swing my opinion towards another laptop (Asus UM433DA with 3500U).

I am very disappointed my D14 cannot output display thought the Type C port. this is total rubbish.

I bought mine D14 (R5-3500 / 8 GB / 256) a few days ago based mainly on this review. It is my back-up unit, used for viewing Internet and e-mailng (no games or heave loads).
Battery life is approx. 7 - 8 hours in really light use. Hoped for better but that is OK for me.
The fan however is quite annoying: it is not loud but goes on for most of the time while temperature remains normal and CPU load is low.
Have an issue with the night light mode - it just doesn't activate as it should.
Other than that: mediocre screen, nice touch pad, not bad housing, quite nice keyboard.
Generally speaking: you get what you pay for. I would not rate that laptop that high, however.
