AMD's Ryzen 7 4800U has already been discovered going through 3DMark 11's punishing tests and a new run has thrown up even higher scores for the Renoir mobile chip. The Ryzen 4000 APU had managed to create quite a margin between itself and Intel's Core i7-1065G7, with the new results demonstrating the Ryzen 7 4800U's processing capabilities.

Intel-sells everything he can to every home, regardless of the quality.
Lisa Su-proud to have made the most advanced processor.
(i think 8 zen2 cores is too much for a poor little ice lake. can we take ryzen 5 4500u as a competitor to ice lakes?)

gap of igpu is filling.Xe graphics is expected to do well.infiact with higher capacity AMD cpu, gpu score are marginal difference.4800u is high end and next gen is expected in next year only. does that means after long wait we will see intel igpu beating amd one this year( with upcoming intel lot)

@k - So far the Tigerlake igpu benchmarks have been less than impressive.

There is also 2 things to consider:

1) Due to Xe being a new architecture, its bound be glitchy for a year or 2.

2) There is also such a thing as the Ryzen 9 4900u

pro of the pro

It doesnt matter after all. AMD in par with Intel mean AMD just sell everything on the cheap to get money. Big loss to Intel

I don't think so.
For one thing, this new score puts AMD's Vega iGP 24% AHEAD of Intels'.
Also, AMD has Zen 3 coming out soon too (which will have enhanced Navi graphics in it).
So, comparing iGP to iGP, AMD still seems to have the lead for now

If its NOT UNsurprising, then its SURPRISING, which i doubt is what was meant by the writer.

i thought "soon" is a word for zen2+vega

that will not be before march 2021. Also igpu scales with processor. so this one got powerful 4800u, and hence 25% more performance from igpu. If tiger lake is faster, igpu performance will scale up as well when paired with powerful cpu.25% better igpu was not norm for AMD earlier. it was 300% percent better that time. Igpu is especially more important with u series processor.

friendly reminder about 15w for all.

So even if get a laptop with Ryzen 7 4800U, I will miss out on Thunderbolt 3 and decent quality hardware video encoding (AMD's Video Core Next sucks in quality and still no B-frames for HEVC?). Unless there is a laptop with Ryzen 7 4800U and 1660 Ti or Ryzen 7 4800H and NVIDIA RTX 20xx Graphics with NVENC, but there does not seem to be any. And still no Thunderbolt 3. Whereas with Intel Ice Lake, I can get TB3 and QuickSync Gen 11 HEVC which is improved in quality and ahead overall.

correct. amd=better cpu, nvidia=better gpu. intel=..thunderbolt, sometimes, maybe.
intel is an outsider, by a good margin.

I think you are all forgetting the much better AMD graphics drivers that are released very often and optimized. Intel is much much worse on this aspect, so even if the hardware is comparable (I bet these results are 15W AMD vs 25W Intel), AMD in real gaming will have the edge.

I bet, when released, these Intel CPU will be more comparable on TDP to the Ryzen 9 4900HS. Very frequently, Intel is set to 25W but generated heat and boost are much higher leaving a real TDP from 35W.
