Breaking embargo, Ukrainian outlet Overclockers.ua posted a review of the Ryzen 4500U-powered Acer Aspire SF314. The review and benchmarks provide us with a clear picture of how the Ryzen 4000-series APU performs.

finally some laptops
long battery, one tiny heat pipe, low heat and noise=> this one is really power efficient. also 6 cores for cheap. 2.7ghz under load, ~800cb r15.
good luck comet lake&ice lake.

Interesting stuff! The cooling system in that Acer notebook is fairly pathetic, with the GPU clocking down to 1200/1100 under stress, so there might well be more to be squeezed out of these chips in better thermal environments.

It did at least have dual-channel RAM; LPDDR4 at 3200Mhz at that. There's potentially room for more here with systems built using faster LPDDR4X.

thermal? you think 15w is enough for 4ghz 6 cores and 1800mhz gpu? you are either a magician or from lisa su marketing department :)

Since we don't know the thermal situation, it's really hard to fairly say what to expect, especially since we don't have any 100% confirmed benchmark numbers on these processors. It's very possible that  this chassis simply can't handle anything over 15w, and even throttles when its maintaining that, but that's yet to be seen. It's likely we'll see way better clocks on this same chip, but in a different laptop.

Also, took a look at the leak again, the single heatpipe going to a single fan isn't exactly promising. A lot of laptops struggle to cool 15w under those kinds of situations. It's very likely this machine was thermal throttling under certain test conditions, but again, we don't know until we know.

74C, 2700mhz cpu, 1200mhz gpu during aida64 stress test. 28-39C surface.
and as i said, 15w is the main limit for the mobile cpu and gpu productivity. there is no special magic about mobile architectures. more electric power-more productivity.
people still believe in wow-level of igu performance on 5-10w. 300w vega 64 is meh, but 10w vega 8 is what everyone need. sure. gandalf was here.

btw, in case some of you are not familiar with the numbers.
exactly 9400h level of performance. with low power, silence and huge battery life, for less money.

Why are they comparing it to last gen Intel u series when the i5 1035g7 has been out for 6 months already and is the 4500u true competitor

yep, a direct competitor. one correction. we can call 1035g7 not "6 month old" but "new", basically surface and inspiron and thats it. still not too much of it on the market.
