A new carry-on suitcase also packs a Wi-Fi hotspot, a power-bank and GPS

Samsara is a company that harnesses the trend towards tech-enhanced luggage. Its latest product is of the newly-expanded 23-inch carry-on size. It is the first from its OEM to have its own Wi-Fi hotspot. The suitcase also supports wireless charging for phones and has GPS for "more accurate" tracking should it get lost.

Some airline companies don't allow "smart" carry-on suitcases onboard (or any kind of big battery device inside).
Don't see this selling big for people that do air travel. Could be useful for people that use trains, buses or other means of transport.

Most airlines have already banned "smart" luggage with battery packs; advertising this for carry-on is misleading and could result in disappointment at the gate. It would also need to be turned off for flying which would also disable the tracking!

Upon closer look, if it had a removable battery, you might possibly be able to take it on a plane, either checked in or carry-on, if you took out the battery and carried the battery in your hand. But with the various misinformation that airline staff believe in, they may think that all smart suitcases are banned, no matter if the battery is removed or not.

Just look at electric bicycles.  There is a blanket ban on them on most airlines.  Their websites don't even mention whether the ban still applies if you remove the battery from the bicycle (in which case it's just like a normal mechanical human powered bicycle because the motor cannot be powered).

So I wouldn't risk taking a "smart" suitcase. You might have to go find another suitcase at the airport.
