TCL has announced that the new displays to be shown off at the next CES by this company will feature mini-LED technology. This next-gen form of backlight may prove a viable alternative to OLED. TCL asserts that its version are capable of "unrivaled contrast and brilliant clarity".

Technically, Samsung's current MicroLED solution should be miniLED, and the Asus display that still needs local dimming with a thousand regions, that's...just LED. If each dimming region covers 1-9 pixels, those could be called miniLED. It's not mini if it's not in 1-3mm range considering the size of regular diodes. MicroLED goes a step further in that each diode is too small for one pixel that it leaves large areas blank at the current pixel density for monitors. They'd be perfect for the density of EVFs though.
