The new Chromium-based Edge is coming January 15th, per Microsoft's blog. In addition to a snazzy new logo, the updated Edge will be based on Chromium to improve website compatibility and security. Bing is also getting a few tweaks for business clients to make searching for people in a corporation easier, among other improvements.

So Firefox is the only choice. Both technically better and won't support the Google web dominance which is the worst thing that could happen.

So Firefox is the only choice. Both technically better and won't support the Google web dominance which is the worst thing that could happen.

Google Web dominance has already happened, according to the latest StatCounter report, almost 75% of web browsing happens using Chromium or some other Blink based browser, including Edge will push it over that.

It's gets worse if you include Safari which is using Web Kit, as that was heavily influenced by Google at the time they were still using it.

Google has absolutely nothing to do with Chromium besides the fact that the most popular web browser is built upon it. Chromium is an open source project that is run by a community. Google decides what they want to keep, and fine tune stuff for Chrome. Then they implement their trackers and whatever. Microsoft is doing a really good job with their browser here, and I see no reason to switch to Firefox simply to avoid trackers when Edgium has tracking prevention. Also I have both Firefox and Edgium... Edgium outperforms Firefox by a long shot, at least the beta release candidate of Edgium.
