Apparently, portrait shots on the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro phones are as bad as ever

Apple's iPhones have consistently been some of the best camera phones on the market. There seems to be a recurring issue over the past few generations, though: messy portraits. The new iPhones still manage to have that niggling fault, with portrait shots taken by the phones showing poor edge detection.

Apparently, you're surprised...

These, fake, software "depth of field" photo has been and always will be s*** [and useless to certain people (like me) who can't stand processed/unnatural photos].
Sure, you might get a reasonable portrait for time to time but it will never perfect and if not perfect - it's useless.

"Apple leads and the rest of the pack follows."!??!?!  Larger phone, wireless charging, NFC, etc etc etc - Apple's mostly trying to play catch-up.  Even the annoying dropping of 3.5mm jack some android manufacturers dropped before Apple.   Clearly written by an Apple fanboy.

"edge detection" - LOL

That is the dead giveaway about how crap the iCrap is! It knows that its camera is lousy compared to the triple cam and quad cam setups that the Android world has enjoyed for several years now. So CrApple is compensating by trying to copy Google by using software means to artificially increase bokeh. But everybody knows that that requires AI smarts, which unfortunately the Fruit Company lags way way behind the likes of Google, Microsoft, Amazon. Just consider how lousy Siri is comparied to Google, Cortana, Alexa!

Not that the iSheep would understand any of that, much less what bokeh means.

Afterall, they are dumb enough to buy phones in 2019 with a huge f-ugly NOTCH! They are also the ones dumb enough to pay US$200 for an f-ugly Oral B toothbrush (and very mediocre sounding thing) to stick in their ears!

It was better last generation and I previously attributed it to them trying to apply gradient blur based on a true depth map, but it looks worse this generation and some of the errors don't look like a depth map issue.
Still as I said last year these people should be testing against a background with depth, for example at least do full body portraits and include the ground, not a flat background in the distance, this makes it impossible to assess whether or not there's a true depth map used. This MKBHD is the guy who tried to peel off the Fold's protection film and blame it on Samsung, he's amateur as ever.
