Going by our calculations, Xiaomi has two devices in the works for imminent launch. One could be the Redmi Note 8 with the new 64 MP Samsung GW1, while the other will be a gaming phone powered by the new MediaTek Helio G90T.

On July, 31, Lu Weibing, Redmi's boss, confirmed on Weibo that Redmi will use Helio G90T soon.

As G90T is the only soc able to Handle 64MP with zero shutter delay and noise reduction (even SD855 is limited to 48MP with these features. 192MP on Qualcomm's are without...)

For these reasons, I think gaming mid-ranger with G90T and 64MP are the features of a single device.

Good points. Let's wait and see.

Competition is always welcome. Impressive performance on paper too. However the real issue is the power consumption of this chip. Its built on 12nm instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon 730/730G's 8nm.

Also MediaTek has always had absolutely lousy support and documentation for their chipsets. XDA developers hate supporting them for that reason - its almost impossible to make ROMs for their handsets. Updates therefore are either slow or totally non-existent. MediaTek may be trying to make a comeback after being in the wilderness with only budget mobile ARM chipsets for a few years but they have a lot of catching up to do. In the high end ARM chipsets, the power users/gamers & influencers demand more than just hardware specs.
