Thin and powerful. The current trend towards thin notebook cases also continues with MSI's current workstation lineup. A decent performance combined with a mobile and light case results in an interesting combination that should not only be interesting for professional users. We checked if and for whom the package works.

I bought WS60-2OJ-3K-IPS few months ago to replace may MSI FX620DX. I use WS60 heavily and professionally - like Photoshop, Captivate, video editing, music production, etc. Awesome machine, great 3K display and nice design overall. However, it feels a bit incomplete and has several flaws:
1. The fans are noisy. Not annoyingly noisy, but it feels like it is raining outside. I had several 'is it raining?' questions from unsuspecting people. Oh, well, that is the slim design factor.
2. HDD (the hard drive - WDC WD10JPVX-22JC3T0
   Manufacturer   Western Digital
   Heads   16
   Cylinders   121,601
   Tracks   31,008,255
   Sectors   1,953,520,065
   SATA type   SATA-III 6.0Gb/s)

has a definite lag issue. Clicking on file explorer there's like a second or 2 of thinking til contents are displayed. I tried to put swap file on SSD and HDD - the lag is still there.
3. The funniest thing is the power supply - it is humongous brick! (it does not feature in any of the promo shots, of course!) It is made by Delta electronics, and I assume MSI engineers and designers spending all that time designing the laptop, just dropped the 90's motorola phone brick look alike in the bag - that will do! The power supply does not even have a light indicator if its plugged in or not. This is the biggest minus in the package, and really thumbs down for the guys who made the decision to include the brick with upmarket aluminium power machine:)

Would love to see a review of the 4K version of this machine. There does not seem to be much information yet on this pane/screen, and hope it is not dim like GS60 4K unit.

Angry buyer

Bought 3 units for our drafters...
Lots, lots, lots of Windows bug under heavy use with AutoCAD (lags, freezes, bsod, restarts...)
bsod on start up for one of the unit if LAN cable plugged in...
Greatly dissapointed as I'll probably have to remove the Windows that came with it and reinstall each of the 3 machines which are, at the time I'm writing these lines, clearly unusable.  A professional workstation should work flawlessly out of the box : we need to work and not waste time tweaking and all.......
There is A LOOOOOOT of improvement that needs to be made by MSI in the conception of their computers...  I dont know if it's a problem in the component's choice, or bugs from the MSI bloatware...  But those machines definitely should definitely not be sold : there arent any better way to kill yourself in that business.

Definitely my last MSI buy....

I should have stayed on Lenovo's W54x series...
