Co-worker. Practical, enduring, reliable, and down to earth. Who doesn't want such a colleague? Our report reveals whether Dell's new 14 inch laptop adorns itself with these qualities.

While good features, the quality of our Dell E5440 has been abysmal. It was ordered in December 2013.  It is currently back at Dell for at least the third time.  The screen, keyboard, hard drive, wifi card, and DVD drive have been replaced. Currently, the AC adapter is being replaced.  Also, the motherboard is being replaced for the second time, with no ETA for getting it back!  Truly a horrible product.

I haven't been using it too heavily (desktop), but my coworker does everyday. I've got no complaints, and haven't heard any. They were ordered mid 2014. Pretty nice mid-grade business laptop.

Used one for 9 months and despite the claims above the E5440 suffers from terrible fan control and noise.

Even under light use the fan is on almost constantly at 3,000rpm and will will only switch off if left totally idle for 10 minutes.  Maybe less noticable in a noisy office but at home it will drive you nuts!

Have complained repeatedly on their support forum but zero interest in looking at it.  Also found hundreds of similar complaints about the previous model E5430.

Congrats Dell you just lost another customer.  If you can't even get the basics right how can you expect to get repeat business?

Dell E5440 is the worst laptop i have ever used. I bought it 3 months back.Already  replaced the screen, DVD drive and complete mother board. Still my monitor is flickering. Luckily i have 1 year service plan so all the repairs are covered till date but after 1 year, i think i can't use this laptop. Don't waste your money and time on this laptop.

Hi,I'm Dell Latitude E5440 user since last 1 year in India.Unfortunately somehow a small crack(near about 3 mm in size) happened at the charging port. Crack happened on plastic outer cover. Laptop is working fine. I just want verify to address this issue do I need to change whole bottom base? Is this covered under warranty? If not covered what can be the cost to replace bottom base? Appreciate your help.

The build quality on the E5440 is not great. So far have had the SD reader failed resulting in new motherboard, it stopped charging the battery resulting in a new motherboard, the system fan stopped working resulting in new motherboard and the keyboard broke.. all within 12 months ! I think that is all. The hard disk is slow  and I will be shortly replacing with a SSD .. I can't say I can recommend this model.

This model has significant build issues.  Running Windows 8.1 it will crash readily from sleep mode (all one needs to do is move it from mains to battery while sleeping, but changing from cabled Ethernet to wireless will often exhibit a similar fault).  There have been issues related to the quality of the RAM supplied.  The DVD also seems to exhibit compatibility issues. This is one that Dell should have spent a lot more time on before releasing.

I made the mistake to buy this computer and get only 1 year guarantee. After one year, the screen had a line, some keys are lose, the battery stopped working. And the company once you don't have guarantee, they don't attend any client. MY LESSON:  NO MORE DELL NEVER. It's better to put an extra money and get a real one mostly if you need for work. It's a waste of money.

Just noticed this comment in the review:

"The plate can be lifted after removing five screws. However, two could not be refastened."

The two screws either side of the dock connector are longer/thinner than the others.  Crazy decision by Dell, gives you an idea of the sloppy design of this model.

When I took mine totally apart to re-paste the heatsink it was a total nightmare, dozens of screws in slightly different sizes.  Factory paste around the heatsink was poor, so much of it was likely keeping the CPU warm rather than cooling.

So i noticed no review was done on the Dell Latitude E5440-4668 Notebook "finger print sensor". i particularly look forward to it as mine has been having issues lately
