Powered by AMD. The top version of the Inspiron 17R is equipped with the rare Radeon HD 8870M. How good does the DirectX 11 chip harmonize with an ULV processor and is the performance high-end or average? Our review gives the answers.

Have you tried to install AMD's new drivers? Is there any performance increase? How this laptop will handle, for example, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. CoP and CS in 1080p, DX11 \10 and all maxed? Thanks!

Thanks so much for this article!! Have been looking for exactly this kind of information about this machine for the last couple of weeks but have found zero until now. My biggest concern after reading this review is the limited cooling performance, is it a possible risk that it will harm the computer in the long run? I have several experiences with HP computers that have constantly shut themselves down out of overheating, which of course can be a catastrophic scenario. Thanks in advance!

I have bought this laptop 17R and on mine market comes with Ubuntu.
So I had to buy windows to and I bought SSD for it. Total price was 1111EUR for basic setup.
Laptop is fine and all in the review is really true, but there is one small thing review does not mention clear enough. There are significant issues with Driver for Video cards. If not installed properly or if mixed with driver updates that Windows is forcing you will end up with PC that will fail to shutdown properly and will fail to go to Standby.
If you use only drivers provided from Dell it will work with some glitches. For example if you use Windows 8.1 and IE in desktop mode most of active buttons on web pages will graphically fall apart, like if textures are messed up in games. This is for Intel VGA. Then you must use slightly newer Intel driver but not newest or latest or your standby or shutdown will not work
If you allow windows to update your VGA drivers, any of them, you are in to serious trouble.

So if you dislike this " vga driver feature" stay away from this product and any product that combines AMD and Intel graphic cards. I was not aware of it but now I must accept it and hope, who ever is to blame, will fix this driver issue where user must be very careful with windows update and not allow driver updates for graphic cards.  This is what I have learned as owner of this laptop, hope it will be helpful for potential buyers.

Does the inspiron 5737 (16gb ram , full HD 17,3", amd radeon hd 8870m) have backlit keyboard ?

I have this laptop and I bought it for $900 CAD which was fairly decent price point for this laptop. The good thing about this laptop is screen which is true HD and matte display does provide good picture quality.

I upgraded laptop with SSD and it is fast so no complaining on that front. My only issue is external hard drive keeps disconnecting here and there and I believe it has more to do with issues of Win 8.1 rather than hardware itself.

I like the keyboard layout which is nice and comfortable to work with. Full size keyboard including numeric keyboard is good for any reasonable typing experience.

I did not put my system under heavy load yet but so far it seems to be handling everything pretty reasonably well. I will say it is decent purchase at discounted price of $900 rather than full price of $1200.

do not buy this laptop for gaming. you can run wow, wot, cs, dota2, diablo on max details and looks great with decent fps... for few min, then temp gets up to 90, processor switches off turbo and gg, unplayable... dont make same mistake like me, now forced to play on minimal details with external cooler. :(
