Memory is soldered to the motherboard. I know this because I have one at home which had an accident with water :)

Can this notebook handle hybrid hard drive? Please help, I'm about to have this one and planning to plant 16gb of SSD in it.

Hello,

Yes, make sure that the drive you are installing is a 2.5-inch 7 mm SATA drive

I  update my prior post after a few months using that machine.
Overall, the ++ are still +++ and the minus are not as much of a burden, over time.

The weight, at 1.3kg, is just fabulous. I have been around everywhere with it and just forget it is in my backpack. the 4:30 hours autonomy is mostly sufficient, and when not, I bring the power supply, which is very light as well.
Overall, this is a great combo and the few minus are minors compared to the advantage I got from this extra-light machine which is perfectly usable thanks to the 11.6" screen. I also happily used it connected to my TV through HDMI at max resolution (1980*1080 or so).

This is the celeron 847 version with Ubuntu and the horse power has always been sufficient for what I do (office tasks, mostly; but also some pictures raw processing).

- the temperature of the machine normally stays at or close to 65° (even this summer), unless the load gets higher. Not an issue.
- I got used to the glare screen (though I prefer mat screens) and to the keyboark and pad as well

I bought that one (the ubuntu version)
++ price, size, weight, 4GB Ram, 500GB disk, autonomy ~ 5 hours
== reasonably powerfull % price, low disk speed in par with price, glaring screen, good network speed but network connection gets lost sometime (could be related to ubuntu),
-- chicklet keyboard uncomfortable (compared to other laptop real keyboards). Gets warm at time > 85° eventhough room temp is 16°C (Firefox load with CPU load ~30%), worried about summer conditions. The trackpad, praised in the article, is not good: nowhere close to my old Dell's; it is too large, which is a problem when keytyping (mouse moves when the hand touches the trackpad, is a problem for Office use) or even to efficiently move the mouse from one side to the other side of the screen; also, it is a mistake NOT to separate the click area from the track pad: the mouse will move if you do not pay attention when clicking, resulting in in not clicking when you thought you would

Overall: I was on a budget, for 300€ I am happy.
Nowhere as good as my old 10years old 12" Dell except faster, Larger Ram, lighter, more battery.
Screen, touchpad, keyboard are less comfortable
In other words it's better than a 10 years old Dell except if you use it ;)

I bought a brand new laptop. I need my computer for work. The charger broke almost immediately. No one at the company can tell me where I can buy a replacement in the country. I was told it would take a month to order a new charger. So now I'm left without a computer for upwards of a month. No one at the company seems to care. This is the worst experience I've ever had with any product. Customer service is incompetent, unprofessional and uncaring. I will never buy another Asus product again. If you're considering an Asus computer, make a better choice. Buy literally any other computer.

i bought a unit X201-e south east asia version, comes with 2 GB ram.
Immediately i found it is too slow access to programs, and couldnt running on multi programs. If done so, it keeps stalled. It has problem with keyboard which its cursor will jump randomly when typing on spreadsheet or on any web contents.
Its touchpad is not practical when it has a combine tabs left and right in one touchpad.
However its physical cover body is solid and feel durable.
Personally I feel it is not worth to buy due to its 2GB ram specs, inferior performance of keyboard and touchpad.
I give 3 stars out of 10.
