From the Connectivity section:

"The options here are unchanged from last year's Y50..."

Correction: The Y50 had an S/PDIF port which the Y700 doesn't. It's actually a step backward in that regard.

The reviewer apparently places no value on the indicator lights and doesn't even mention them, so I'll point them out for users like myself who do: The keyboard has a total of two; one for caps lock and one num lock indicator light (a rare occurence nowadays, but very useful). On the left side of the front edge are four status lights, which are, from left to right: Power status, battery status, touchpad lock and HDD status. Note that the HDD status light only works for the SATA disk. The SSD unfortunately does not get a status light.

Personally I would have preferred having a wireless status indicator instead of the touchpad lock indicator. That would have been more useful. Also, a separate status light for the SSD and a scroll lock indicator on the keyboard would make this laptop perfect in the indicator department.

I bought this ideapad. I went to copy files from my old computer to the ideapad using the external cd drive that came with the ideapad. It could not read the media - CD or DVD. It turned out the ideapad was delivered without the latest Windows 10 drivers. When I called Lenovo support they charged me $200 to update the driver. When you buy a computer you assume it will work 100% out of the box. A big disappointment!

I want to confirm that the Y700 15ISK 80NW supports NVME M.2 drives. My model came with a 128GB NVME sumsung drive (in Device Manager reported as NVMe Samsung MZ-VLV128)

Interesting to note that Device Manager also reports the presence of a Standard NVM Express Controller under storage controllers.

There have been reports that the Samsung 950 Pro also works.

Lenovo could deliver a best-selling hit for an extra $100.  Too bad that, once again, they chose to produce a laptop where the mouse, keyboard, and display will need to be external for a good gaming experience.  (p.s. we own a Y580 FHD which suffers from all the same problems except the display is better.)

"Corners are cut to hit a low price target and to avoid cannibalizing sales of other Thinkpad products (P50 workstation, for example).  Corners cut on this model include a still-bad LCD display and still-bad touch pad and still-not-replaceable battery, no modern ports, and a very difficult time to open and repair the laptop."

Is this screen flickering on all brightness levels? On another laptop reviews site I have read, that it flicker only below certain level of brightness, and has 200Hz frequency.

I would like to ask you, which laptop should is buy?

This Lenovo Y700 series (i7 version) or the Dell Inspiron 7559?

For me the Dell slightly better.

Hi,

I would choose option 3, and by the way it is MSI GE62 6QG if CPU 6700HQ.
Reason for option 3 is 1st MSI as a brand, 2nd display, 3rd connectivity and kayboard.
