Quantum dot tech. Improves NTSC gamut and minimizes blacklight bleeding and takes the cost north of the other model.

@Snuffy

I believe the discrepancy is due to the NX500 being the "older" model.  I know when I was looking at top of the line Zenbooks a few months ago, that was the cheapest one (i.e. besides the 300 series etc.).

A quick check of Amazon seems to back this up:

http://www.amazon.com/Zenbook-15-6-Inch-Quantum-Dot-Touchscreen-i7-4712HQ/dp/B00NV9M6HC/

Date First Available:   November 6, 2014

Date First Available:   April 6, 2015

What a different 6 months makes!

I am confused why this computer costs $1,200 less than asus's other laptop.

This One ASUS ZENBOOK Pro UX501JW-DS71T:

other one ASUS ZENBOOK NX500JK-XH72T:

These notebooks seem very very similar,  why does one cost $1,200 more??

Any chance you could provide the .icc file for the May 29th Update? The listed one seems to be dated 5/1

Is 1080p touchscreen matte or glossy? Look at this link and please tell me what battery it is, 96w or the other:

  And is this version's storage upgradeable?

I do not remember which site I read it on, but the 100% sRGB coverage is only possible while plugged in for some weird reason. As it is, you are better off with a HP Pro model or a MacBook Pro if you are interested in picture quality while on the go.

Thank you for this detailed review.

I recently bought a FullHD mate screen version : UX501JW CN209H. The lower resolution does improve battery runtimes and I am really happy with it.
It is only a pitty that it is not shipped with an intel wireless chiset (Atheros AR946X instead). It does the job but does not support the latest standarts and intel Widi.

The Ultimate ZenBook? Sporting nearly identical specifications to the recently-reviewed G501JW, the UX501JW—with a 4K LCD display, discrete graphics, and quad-core CPU—targets an audience who may in fact be a better fit for its choices. Is this truly the ultimate ZenBook?
