Thank you for this excellent review. I have just one question - I have found that the Intel Atom Z3745F processor is actually a 64-bit processor but the tablet runs just a 32-bit system. Is there any major drawback to this?

Are you german, btw? Mir ist aufgefallen dass die Fotos alle ein deutsches Windows 8.1 zeigen.

Casing is aluminum, not plastic all the way around

The 12 volt coaxial power connector has 3mm diameter and is non-standard. It breaks easily and a power supply is not an item stored in the shops selling the unit. Calling Acer support requires some product ID which is inaccessible with an empty battery. No other p/s fits, adapters don't have 3mm.
50 years ago sewing machines had all their own screw threads, incompatible. 12vdc connectors for electronics have been around 40 years, standardized. Some never learn. SHAME on ACER.

I have just purchased an Asus T100 and I'm thinking about exchanging it for an Aspire Switch 10 b/c the Switch 10 seems to have a better design.  I'm wondering: 1) Are the Switch 10's keys really that much larger?  Can you notice the difference.  2) How have you (and others) found the Switch 10 to hold up over time?  It seems that Acer was known for shoddy, cheap products a few years back, whereas the Asus t100 users (on Amazon, etc.) don't seem to have too many complaints about the Asus t100 falling apart or getting glitchy.  3) Do either of these models support Miracast?  This last question will settle the issue for me, either way, if one does support Miracast and another does not.
Thanks in advance!

I have seen there is a different variant of this machine on the market (SW5-012) which has a different processor, different display, and possibly different version of Windows.

Will you be reviewing SW5-012 in the near future?

I had to return today my brand new Aspire Switch 10 because the wifi connection was weak and unstable. In medium or weak wifi signal conditions, the connection is extremely poor, and definitely inferior to older low cost notebooks, including Acer's Aspire One. I am surprised that you found the wifi of your Switch 10 strong and reliable, maybe the US and the European versions use a different wifi hardware

@ gadget, #3: Agree, it would be nice to put in an HDD yourself. I have decided for the 64 GB version of the Switch 10 (after having read this excellent review, among others!). I have seen that the 32 GB version now sells with the 500 GB HDD (in Europe/Sweden), so possibly the 64 GB eMMC + 500 GB HDD version is on its way in as well?

Would be great if someone could figure out a way to put a HDD in the dock with a data interface as I have a spare one lying around and would love to mod this.

Thanks for the good review!

But many users complain that the dock doesn't respond anymore unless you demount and mount it again. Didn't you experience any problems with the touchpad/keyboard?
How often did you have the issue with the windows button?

Also I would like to know, if you got any informations about Acer's plans to release a version with battery in the dock, due to the free space you found inside. This would also prevent the device from tipping.

Late Switch? Acer has recently replaced its Clovertrail-generation W510 2-in-1 with the new Acer Aspire Switch 10, a Baytrail-T based Windows 8 PC with similar dockable tablet design. The Acer Aspire Switch 10 will compete directly with what is probably the most successful 2-in-1 yet - the Asus Transformer Book T100. Have Acer done enough to attract people away from the Transformer T100?
