Review DevilTech Fire DT14 Notebook
« am: Juli 17, 2013, 08:34:39 »
To be handled with kid gloves. DevilTech combines high-tech components with a plastics chassis. The cutting-edge Intel Haswell CPU and a GTX 760M are supposed to turn the Fire DT14 into a tempting offer for gamers. But is the case sturdy enough to protect the precious innards?

Getting Hot!

I was surprised to see this laptop getting so hot that it throttled the CPU.  I used to use a Dell XPS M1530 that when overclocked pulled the same 110W from the wall that this reviewed laptop did.  Temperatures on the M1530 didn't go over 90degC, and it had the same one fan cooling system except it only had one heat pipe for each chip (CPU/GPU).  The reviewed laptop here has a seemingly better suited cooling system with 2 heat pipes for the GPU, and 1 heat pipe for the CPU.  The cooling system in this should be better than that of my M1530, yet the temperatures are worse.  Could it be that this particular unit that was reviewed is an isolated case and  just had a bad CPU/GPU paste job?

Notebookcheck, there are some really interesting machines out in the market for some time, do you intend to review them?
Such are:
Acer R7 (Core i7 / Nvidia Geforce 750M
The new Alienware 17

The Alienware are of course planned and usually we also review all interesting Acer machines as soon as they are available to us (and we got time for them)

Having the GE40 variant myself, I can confidently say that it sounds like a bad paste job. Mine never gets throttled and does not get uncomfortably hot, at least not on AC power. Unfortunately, the paste job from MSI varies terribly in quality from laptop to laptop so it's a real possibility.

Worst computer shop I have ever seen. The customer support is horrible: They barely communicate with their customers and shipping takes more than 3 months !!! I will never buy from deviltech again !!!  >:(
